Today’s best used boats are some great classics of the past. In 2013, the US shipyard Bayliner, which specializes in versatile and affordable Open, Bowrider and Daycruisers, has unveiled the Bayliner 642, a versatile and comfortable day cruiser, ideal for quick days at sea, but also suitable for longer cruises, thanks to a cabin that can accommodate two people overnight.

The cockpit is wide, well protected by the bulwarks and side windshield extensions. A wide hood allows convenient entry into the engine compartment making it easy to check and perform periodic maintenance. Performance in rough water is aided by the depth of the hull (deadrise of 20 degrees aft), while stability is provided by the large beam (2.43 meters). It is powered by a 220-hp inboard.

COVER

The pilot’s chair swivels to face the convivial cockpit area, where dining can be done around the folding, removable teak table. Access to the large aft platform is via a modular passageway that can also be used as a sundeck backrest.

The passage to the bow, however, is through a sliding door molded with steps, and the deck is protected by stanchions of appropriate height. The dashboard is designed to accommodate a large Lcd screen in addition to the engine panels.

Seats and sofas are versatile, and with their movements they allow you to better organize the space for sitting or lying down. The cushions are soft and lightweight, so they can be easily stowed away when the boat is not in use. Everywhere, easy-access storage spaces have been made.

INTERIOR

The cabin is furnished with a convertible living room that allows two people to sleep overnight. It has a toilet, has plenty of wardrobe space and is well lit by the large portholes. For daily use, the 642 offers solutions that make every moment on board simple and enjoyable.

EVALUATION

The shipyard’s long experience has resulted in a very comfortable, well-equipped, yet inexpensive vessel. It has been popular throughout Europe (France, Germany) and prices for a used one range from 30 thousand euros for a 2013 up to 36 thousand for a 2015.
