Wally is an icon. This brand is the progenitor of many modern powerboats. Today we talk about one model, the Wallypower 47, which has a special appeal. Designed in 2004, it touched the water officially in 2005, 20 years ago. Yet its lines are still very relevant today. It may not be as famous as the wallytenders or the 118, but by 2008, just 3 years after its launch, 19 had already been sold.

Luca Bassani’s boats may or may not be liked, but it is a fact that they revolutionized the boating world, first by sail and then by motor. With his concept of easy sailing he had succeeded in developing 30-meter sailboats that could be driven by one person alone. An absurd and, at the time, unique technological effort. All of this then trickled down to powerboats. We are talking about the intensive use of carbon, the metallic coloring of the hull and deck, the underwater anchor, and the so-called “bulwarks” that can be opened, i.e., fold-down decks.
With Wally, Bassani shouldered the task of disrupting the design hitherto in use. Straight lines and sharp edges, a cockpit as big as the boat, the walkaround configuration. All this and more can already be found on the first example, the wallytender, created in 2001 as a means of support for the yard’s large sailing yachts. At the same time the mammoth 118 wallypower was under construction, later launched in 2003.
We come to 2005. It is the year of an altogether “quiet” craft, a 47-footer. The year before, in fact, in 2004, the brand now part of the Ferretti Group had initiated the WallyDesign project to design sailboats over 50 meters and powerboats over 40 meters.
What does it look like
What was striking immediately and is still striking now is the cockpit: the aft area is completely open to the sea, and the sunbathing area is flush with the dunnage, an original and decidedly useful solution, because it is like having a terrace right next to the sea. The central section of the cockpit, the one dedicated to living, on the other hand, is well collected and sheltered. There is the dinette, the opposing sofa and the galley. Below deck, there are two cabins, with the owner’s cabin at the apex forward and the double with bunk beds located aft.
