Not just mono: powerboat hulls can take on the most unexpected shapes… in the third episode of our video podcast produced in collaboration with Suzuki Marine Italia we tackle the analysis of “weird hulls.”

Foiler Enata, 9.8 meters long, maximum speed 40 knots

In the first two, we first told you about the “basics” of the subject (starting with Archimedes’ principle) and then moved on to describe displacement, planing and semi-planing hulls; in this one, we talk to you instead about catamarans and trimarans, but also about “monohulls,” tricycles and inverted tricycles, with a focus also on what is the most topical subject: foils and flying boats.

Archdevil II, one of Renato Sonny Levy’s creations.

We also tell you about the mythical “three points,” about “master Renato Sonny Levy,” and about Racebird, the electric F1 of boating. As always, our Stefano Monfroni and Luca Sordelli will address the topic in a simple way and as light as possible, with many examples from the non-boating world as well.

The fairings, but not only

Next will come three episodes on propulsion systems, starting with outboards and going all the way to hydrojets (also moving on from IPS, inboard, and of course axle lines), and three on propellers, always greatly underrated but a key element in a boat’s performance.

At the end of our theoretical course we will move on to a series of sea trials.
Objective? Understanding the numbers in our boat.

– How can I consume less?

– How to gain a few extra knots?

– What are the secrets to safe sailing? – Propellers, which one to choose? – Trim, how to use it? And so much more…
