If you are looking for a boat to not go unnoticed here is something that is definitely for you. Previewed last year in Cannes, Explosion Marine’s X44, the 44-foot livable inflatable boat, returned at the 2018 Genoa Boat Show. New this year, the X44 is equipped with two Seven Marine outboard engines of 627 horsepower each.

From Corvette to outboard

These engines from Seven Marine are the marine derivation of the 550-horsepower Chevrolet Corvette supercar, and in line with this, they differ from most outboards in that these are oriented horizontally and not vertically, just as in automobiles. These are very powerful outboards, which despite some tuning details push the rib to a top speed of 44 knots with a cruising speed around 35 knots. These are large numbers because the rib weighs about 9 tons and is very wide. A very interesting choice that replaces the typical triple engine. While the 3 engines weighed a total of about 1,000 kg, the dual engine is worth about 1,200 kg total, and this keeps the X44 more stable.

X44: the rib with the livability of a 50 feet

The livability is that of a 50-footer because it is a very tall and wide rib. This rib was created as a cruiser that is totally customizable in both the interior and exterior. The forward master stateroom has very large volumes and a large en-suite bathroom, while the aft cabin has two bunks, which can be made into a two-and-a-half berth if desired. All Explosion Marine’s yachts are built with the Vacuum Infusion System which makes the boat very durable and avoids any kind of osmosis. At the bow, much emphasis has been placed on the sunbathing area, while at the stern the side decks can be lowered to further enlarge this RIB and make it even more livable.

Data sheet:

  • Overall length: 13.50 meters
  • Hull length: 13.37 meters
  • Maximum width: 4.55 meters
  • Width with side decks open: 5.60 meters
  • Draught: 0.77 meters
  • Motorization (in the version exhibited in Genoa): two 627-horsepower outboards
