Cryptocurrencies have been one of the hottest topics in recent years. They are used everywhere, in every field, from works of art to high-end automobiles. At this point the question arises spontenea: what about the boats? Has this “formula” ever been used in the nautical world? The answer is yes, and as chance would have it, the first sale of a cryptocurrency vessel was in Italy. But how does it work? Is it safe to buy a boat with cryptocurrencies? We caught up with Giampiero Manzi, CEO of Bella Center Italia and Italian importer of some major Scandinavian brands (Nimbus, Aquador, etc.) to shed some light, see when it pays off and why.

Background: what cryptocurrencies are and how they work

The more “high-tech” people probably already know this, but a great many people are unaware of what cryptocurrencies are. Let’s try to explain it in an easy way:

Cryptocurrencies are a decentralized virtual asset popular in the financial segment, best known for its security and disintermediation features.

  1. No intermediary (not even banks): cryptocurrency transactions have no intermediary (traditionally banks) and are by their very nature protected by the environment in which they take place.
  2. No exchange rates or currency conversions: two parties located even at opposite ends of the world without having to go through local exchange rates and currency conversions.
  3. Transaction security: cryptos base their operation precisely on cryptography (crytpo + currency = cryptocurrency), which allows any two participants to exchange currency anonymously and without intermediaries (peer-to-peer exchange). The transaction is protected by the blockchain, a distributed network in which all participants validate transactions through immutable and particularly stable and secure processes.
  4. To buy cryptos: exchange platforms (Exchanges) are used to exchange legal tender money(in any currency) for the desired cryptocurrency. Cryptos are held in digital wallets (Wallets) that have an identifying address useful for exchanging in turn the cryptocurrencies held with other virtual wallets.

Buying a boat with cryptocurrencies

The first vessel in Europe to be sold not for money but for cryptocurrency was a Pinball machine. It was 2017, and it was indeed Giampiero Manzi who completed this sale. Since then, the CEO of Bella Center-the Italian importer of the Nimbus Group ‘s Bella, Nimbus, Flipper, and Aquador brands-has decided to accept cryptocurrencies among the different forms of payment available for buying a boat.

But why should we buy a boat by paying in cryptocurrency? The system is advantageous for those who already have cryptos in their portfolio and do not want to convert them into euros to buy a boat. This avoids the (also very high) fees required for conversion. Another big advantage is speed, because with cryptocurrency transactions, the payment process is speeded up, as transactions that take place on the blockchain usually take 5 to 60 minutes, and only rarely require more processing time. In addition, buying and selling is completely safe for both the buyer and the seller, as the transaction is protected by the blockchain.

It is a payment method that we do not often hear about, rather peculiar, but useful to know about for those invested in this area. Bella Center makes its entire range available to those who intend to pay with cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin but not only). A few examples: the new Aquador 300 HT, the Nimbus W11 or the Bella 600 BR. But the service offered by Giampiero Manzi on cryptocurrencies does not stop only at the aspect of buying and selling boats-crypto is also about counseling for those who intend to approach this world. If you are a newcomer you can contact him if you would like to become an informed cryptocurrency holder to use tomorrow, why not, just to buy a boat.
