The energy of the sun in the service of freedom at sea

Solbian brings sunshine to boats around the world with lightweight, durable and high-performance photovoltaic solutions.

Born in 2009 from the meeting between physicist Marco Bianucci and Giovanni Soldini, the company has been able to transform an idea into an industrial reality of reference for the nautical sector and beyond. The initial goal was to make boating more sustainable and competitive by reducing fuel consumption through clean energy from the sun. Since that first flexible panel with Solbianflex technology, growth has been steady, driven by tireless research and development and entirely Italian production. The experience gained in the world of ocean sailing has shaped Solbian‘s philosophy: each panel must guarantee reliability, efficiency and safety even in the most extreme conditions. This vision has paved the way for new applications, including land mobility, emergency structures, and architectural integration. Today Solbian is recognized as an international leader in marine-applied solar energy, with thousands of installations to its credit. What sets Solbian apart is its use of innovative materials and unique manufacturing processes, the result of years of research and development. Unlike common panels encapsulated in EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl-Acetate), Solbian uses a thermoplastic polymer developed in Italy that is less sensitive to moisture and more resistant to impact and trampling. The thicker-than-average frontsheets and backsheets offer greater structural rigidity and UV protection, while the high-performance adhesive ensures perfect adhesion even above 100°C.

On-board custom solutions are one of Solbian’s hallmarks. Whether it’s a sailing catamaran or a large motor yacht, the panels can be tailored to shape, power, color, and electrical layout. What’s more, the kit can be installed on the dredges (top right photo) with a few simple cables and controls (bottom right photo).

Added to this are the latest generation of multi-bus-bar photovoltaic cells, such as SunPower, capable of reaching efficiencies of up to 25.5 percent and maintaining electrical continuity even in the event of micro-fractures or partial shading. The result is a range of lightweight, flexible and robust panels designed to ensure reliability and long-lasting performance in all sailing conditions. Thanks to its know-how, Solbian is able to tailor panels for any type of boat, customizing shape, power, color and electrical layout according to the customer’s needs. Each panel is developed to fit various configurations, such as deckhouse, hard top or bimini, always ensuring a result consistent with the aesthetic and functional requirements of the boat. Alongside custom modules, Solbian offers a range of “off the shelf” products designed to make solar power affordable and easy to install even for those who want a ready-to-use solution. These include the SunBender, a solar kit that includes a Solbian panel made with SunPower cells, designed to ensure optimal energy production even in difficult conditions, and all the necessary components (MPPT controller, cables and connectors) for quick and easy installation. The Draglie Kit, on the other hand, represents an elegant and practical solution to take advantage of the space along the boat’s draglie, providing additional PV surface area without interfering with the livability or aesthetics of the boat. For those looking for total integration, TheALLinONE 2.0 Connect combines Solbian photovoltaic technology and an intelligent MPPT controller in a single panel, simplifying the on-board electrical system to the maximum. Thanks to integrated wi-fi communication, it allows real-time performance monitoring and offers a wide freedom of customization: from the choice of cells, such as those manufactured by SunPower or Merlin Solar, to finishes, colors, and fixing methods, for an efficient result perfectly tailored to the customer’s needs. Innovation, craftsmanship and passion for the sea come together in every Solbian product. In its path of continuous innovation, the company puts the sun at the center of on-board energy to accompany those who love to sail without compromise, offering reliable and sustainable solutions, the result of Made in Italy excellence.
