After the side and front sonars, comes the “final” one. It is the Mega Imaging 360 from Humminbird, a sonar that allows you to see what’s going on under your boat in 360°. “It’s a kind of underwater ‘radar'”, Maurizio Pedone of KD Italy, which imports Humminbird products to Italy, told us. “This technology has long been available for professional fishing, at a very high cost, but now it is also available to the general public, at an all in all low cost of about 1,500 euros.”

HOW 360-DEGREE SONAR WORKS

MEGA technology (over one million Hertz, 1,250,000 HERTZ) imaging has also affected 360° sonar. It is a system that allows you to display on the multifunction at medium, high or above mega frequencies everything around your vessel, in a diameter of about 40 meters. “The situation is obviously related to Sport Fishing,” Pedone says, “for inland waters but also at sea, and it is very useful if you practice techniques such as drifting for tuna fishing (with the boat stationary and sardines as bait in midwater, baiting with sardines, ed.).”

The system makes it possible to:
– Modulate frequencies according to the characteristics of the fishing Spot, water clarity , reachable distance (range) in Spot Lock mode (electronic anchor selectable from the Minn Kota Electric Motor) or in slow drift (maneuvered or not).
– Determine the area of interest by viewing only the segment of your interest.
