This is Yamaha’s new outboard, the 450-horsepower 8-cylinder XTO, and it is the most powerful ever made by the Japanese manufacturer. With him also comes the new 400-horsepower V8 XTO.

Outboard motors are now masters in boating and are growing upward to accommodate ever-changing needs, whether more integration or more power. In fact, it is no secret that today’s outboards are capable of propelling larger and larger boats.

With a 5.6-liter cubic capacity, this new outboard receives Yamaha’s top-of-the-line baton from the “old”
XTO 425hp
, still a V8, maintaining the muscular engine footprint. The goal is to offer even more power and thus once again allow outboards to be used on larger boats, those that were usually the preserve of another type of powerplant.

The new Yamaha 450hp becomes, therefore, the top specimen in Yamaha’s premium segment, which, in addition to the new 300-, 250- and 225-horsepower V6s, now also sees the arrival of the new XTO 400hp V8, heir to the previous 375hp. The newly introduced V8s focus on an improved power-to-weight ratio.

Yamaha XTO V8 450hp – What changes

Direct fuel injection on these V8s optimized performance, with a reduction in fuel consumption. The better power-to-weight ratio mentioned earlier, but also other features.

In detail, the exhaust was changed, which now has a 4/2/1 ratio with a change in valve diameter as well. On-board power needs are increasing. That’s why the alternator was changed from the 425’s 70-amp alternator to a 100-amp alternator.

In terms of maneuverability, the boat is equipped with integrated digital electronic steering, a tool that improves maneuverability by making the boat more integrated and smooth to maneuver. Of course, just as with regular handcuffs, electronic handcuffs are no joke either, quite the contrary. Don’t forget the safety detachment and be careful when moving on board!

Safety goodies include an integrated stern light on the grille that activates when there is a virtual anchor in operation.

The reverse thrust has also been improved, so as to facilitate mooring and maneuvering in the strait. With tangible benefits in terms of relaxation for those at the helm. Both the 400hp and 450hp are equipped with TotalTilt function system with integrated tilt limit. They can then be lifted completely for better storage.
